week 43

Dear Parents,

I hope you are as excited for the break as we are! Until then there is still lots to be done.
The MYP4's will have plenty of work after break so it is important that during break they take some time to ensure they don't fall behind and catch up where needed. Whilst it is crucial that students take a break, they also need to learn to manage their time, and if that means catching up or getting ahead with classwork then they should spend a few hours here and there doing that.
Hopefully your students have let you know about a raffle going on for the MYP4 fundraiser. This is a really simple and effective way to raise money. We have three prizes to give away and tickets are only 10kr each. The students have made a commitment to sell 10 each which would raise 4000kr if they do this! So please, ask them where the tickets are and hit up friends and family. The prizes are great!
Please check your emails for booking details for PST conferences on Nov 5th and 7th. If you have not recieved an email then please let us know!
Thanks and have a warm and cosy week.
Leighton and Carina

Week 40

Hello Parents and Caregivers of the MYP4,
What a busy week it has been. Students are starting to get results back for tests and assignments, as well as completing three days worth of ISA testing. Im sure the signs of stress are showing. It is important to remind students (as we are) not to get too down on grades early. Students should use these first tasks as a guide to what the “standard” is and adapt.
With these “half days” students should also be using some part of their afternoon on community project and getting ahead with that. Finalizing their project proposals, contacting community members that can help and guide, as well as recording their process journals! There is never a dull minute for MYP4!
Also this friday is Diversity Day and students are encouraged to bring a dish from their native land to share with the class. Nuts should not be included and a list of the ingredients need to be created. This day is mandatory as students will be helping with the PYP and running activities so we need to make sure we are all here!
Otherwise have a nice week and rug up in this windy and wet weather!
Regards,
Carina and Leighton

week 39

Hi parents and caregivers,
Hello wonderful parents of the MYP4! What a time we are having at MIS. The students have been busy organising fundraising for the MYP4 class trip, selling 248 boxes of cookies that should net the class around 5000 SEK. We also had a small bake sale that raised another 438kr, and we will soon be hosting a raffle with donated goods. A big thank you to those students, who have donated a lot of goods and time to this. We really do need the other students to step up however.
While we are giving out thanks, a big thank you needs to go to Dorte who is again our class rep for the year. Dorte takes a lot of responsibility with the class and takes pressure of myself and Carina's shoulders. A reminder that we have a study day on the 26th of September. We will also have ISA testing next week. Please reassure your child that this is primarily a tool for the teachers to use to see where we are doing well or lacking with our teaching. We need the students to try their best to get the most accurate data possible so we as a staff can improve. Information has been sent home so please ask your child if you have not received anything. School will only be till 12 on Tuesday and Wednesday (lunch is provided) but will be back to their schedule on Thursday afternoon. On Friday the 4th we will have Diversity Day where students are encouraged to dress in something cultural, as well as provide a dish to share with the students. There will be no lunch provided by the school on the 4th.
As you can see a big few weeks coming up that will have us all looking forward to the break. Please talk to your child about the community project and see how they are doing. This is a big part of the year and takes up a lot of time outside of school.
Put on an extra layer, stay warm and we will see you next week.

 Leighton and Carina.    .

week 36

Hi parents and caregivers,
What a week it has been with the weather! Warm, then cold, Sunny then Cloudly! It seems as though the weather has been as inconsistent as Malmö FF penalty shots! With the changing of weather it does often cause a changing of attitudes, so it is important to try and stay positive and consistent during these times.
With skola24 up and running, please keep an eye on that. If you child is being recorded as 1, 2, or 3 minutes late then this causes frustration in the class and pushes everything back. It is incredible how this time all adds up and the knock on effect it can have to other students! If there is a reason, as can be the case, then please let the teachers know via email etc.
A date has been confirmed for the MYP 4 community project. This will be on the 8th of May 2020. It will be good if you could plan ahead and come watch your child and others on this day. It will be held in a hall in Limhamn throughout the entire day.
Also tomorrow (Spetember the 6th) is the offical opening of the school. We have guest, politicans and all the bells and whistles, so please come down and enjoy the opening of this wonderful insitution!
Don't forget the parents night on the 12th next week. We look forward to seeing you all here for a meet and great and to take any questions regarding the year.
All the best,
Carina and Leighton
