week 39

Hi parents and caregivers,
Hello wonderful parents of the MYP4! What a time we are having at MIS. The students have been busy organising fundraising for the MYP4 class trip, selling 248 boxes of cookies that should net the class around 5000 SEK. We also had a small bake sale that raised another 438kr, and we will soon be hosting a raffle with donated goods. A big thank you to those students, who have donated a lot of goods and time to this. We really do need the other students to step up however.
While we are giving out thanks, a big thank you needs to go to Dorte who is again our class rep for the year. Dorte takes a lot of responsibility with the class and takes pressure of myself and Carina's shoulders. A reminder that we have a study day on the 26th of September. We will also have ISA testing next week. Please reassure your child that this is primarily a tool for the teachers to use to see where we are doing well or lacking with our teaching. We need the students to try their best to get the most accurate data possible so we as a staff can improve. Information has been sent home so please ask your child if you have not received anything. School will only be till 12 on Tuesday and Wednesday (lunch is provided) but will be back to their schedule on Thursday afternoon. On Friday the 4th we will have Diversity Day where students are encouraged to dress in something cultural, as well as provide a dish to share with the students. There will be no lunch provided by the school on the 4th.
As you can see a big few weeks coming up that will have us all looking forward to the break. Please talk to your child about the community project and see how they are doing. This is a big part of the year and takes up a lot of time outside of school.
Put on an extra layer, stay warm and we will see you next week.

 Leighton and Carina.    .

week 36

Hi parents and caregivers,
What a week it has been with the weather! Warm, then cold, Sunny then Cloudly! It seems as though the weather has been as inconsistent as Malmö FF penalty shots! With the changing of weather it does often cause a changing of attitudes, so it is important to try and stay positive and consistent during these times.
With skola24 up and running, please keep an eye on that. If you child is being recorded as 1, 2, or 3 minutes late then this causes frustration in the class and pushes everything back. It is incredible how this time all adds up and the knock on effect it can have to other students! If there is a reason, as can be the case, then please let the teachers know via email etc.
A date has been confirmed for the MYP 4 community project. This will be on the 8th of May 2020. It will be good if you could plan ahead and come watch your child and others on this day. It will be held in a hall in Limhamn throughout the entire day.
Also tomorrow (Spetember the 6th) is the offical opening of the school. We have guest, politicans and all the bells and whistles, so please come down and enjoy the opening of this wonderful insitution!
Don't forget the parents night on the 12th next week. We look forward to seeing you all here for a meet and great and to take any questions regarding the year.
All the best,
Carina and Leighton

Hi parents and caregivers,
With such a warm start to the year it only makes sense for the students to want to spend as much time outside as possible! It is important to note however, that students must attened the lunch the school provides for them. There are issues with ratios and portions for students and we would hate to see food go to waste. Students are also rostered on to clean up after each other so it is important to each do their bit and attened lunch.
Assingments and tasks will be making a start and it's a great idea to get ahead of these early. We already have a task for the community project starting!
We are also starting our first fundraising activity of the year with students selling cookies from kakservice, so please be aware of that.

week 33

Hi parents and caregivers.
"Don't call it a comeback! We've been here for days!"
That's right a new school year is upon us and we have been at school, revving our engines, making sure the new school year runs as smoothly as possible. With a new school in a beautiful location, there is no doubt a sense of excitement around MIS this year. In particular the MYP4's our wonderful leaders of the new school should be excited. Whilst being the top dogs will be fun, it does come with a fair bit of responsibility.
MYP4 will be full of the usual academic expectations, with a whole lot more added on top. We will have the community project, which undoubtedly is the biggest task of the MYP. We are also trying to set a new tradition in the school by fundraising and taking the students on a more educational trip further away than what we usually do.
This will all take a lot of time for the students that will be well worth it!
Student are to be here 10.00 on Thursday and will meet in Leightons room on the 3rd floor (follow the noise).
We both look forward to seeing yourselves over the year and are excited for the possibilities ahead.
Best regards Leighton and Carina

week 22

Hi parents and caregivers.
It's so close you can almost smell it! Projects are being graded, tests are being marked and soon the students can put their feet up and relax after what has been a busy year. It is an exciting time coming towards the end of the year to look back and consider and reflect on who your child was this time last year. Hopefully you will see (as we certainly do) the growth of your child. We don't see this day to day but when you look back at week to week month to month and year to year, you see just how far they have come!
Please remember grades are numbers, and reflect the work students have presented their teacher. They are not everything. They often do not measure growth, they do not measure kindess, not do they measure effort and character. They are simply a reflection of what they have shown the teacher. If your child does well, then great. If they have room for improvement, or the grade seems off from what you believe then ask your child why this is the perception of the teacher? How can this be fixed? Reflection is crucial in the IB and especially for MIS who value life long learners.
On that note, enjoy the short week, and the weather!
All the best Leighton and Carina.

Information from Service as Action

Dear Parents,
It is our pleasure to invite you to this year's Service as Action Celebration Assembly on Tuesday 4th June at 13:00 in the Aula. We will celebrate this year's projects, give awards and our guest will be Mohamad Aljounde, winner of the International Children's Peace Prize 2017. Mohamad visited us in October and greatly inspired the students before they had started their Service as Action projects, so we are truly happy that he will be with us to celebrate their achievements. We apologise for the short notice but logistics have not made possible to inform you before. We will be very happy if you can join us.

week 21

Hello there wonderful parents of the MYP, I trust you are doing well and enjoying the warmer weather. It is getting to our last full week of regular school lessons, with red days UN days, and mentor days. It is certainly a good chance to push, push, push, before grades are final. A reminder that despite grades being in before the final week, it is important that students fully participate in the activities provided including the mentor day, UN sustainable goals days, as well as the rest of the list below. ALL students are expected to attend the MYP4 dinner from 1700-1930 unless there is a reason as to why they cannot. If that is the case they will need to help with the preparation before hand.
Thanks
Leighton and Carina
